内容記述 | Several studies have showed that participating in volunteer activities has a positive impact on the mental and physical health of older people. Therefore, in the future, it will likely be necessary to clarify the relationship between the perceptions of older volunteers and their effects on the prevention of de- mentia. Herein, we aim to provide data for examining this relationship. The following methodology was used to achieve this goal: (1) A questionnaire survey was conducted in kindergartens, elementary schools, and junior high schools in the city of Saga to clarify the ways in which older people are put to use in the community and as school support volunteers. From the 94 that were asked to participate, 63 schools and kin- dergartens responded. (2) After assessing the results of this survey, another questionnaire survey was conducted to deter- mine how school support volunteersʼ perceptions were structured in elementary schools in Saga; 148 valid responses were received. The results were as follows: (1) The actual conditions of school support volunteers Respondents at schools and kindergartens reported that volunteering provided older people with a sense of purpose in life. (2) Structures in the perceptions of school support volunteers ①Their perceptions broadly comprised the following two types: a sense of being useful and con- nected and a feeling of fulfillment. Furthermore, there was a sense of enjoyment, which was independent of these two types. ②Differences in attributes ・Gender differences An outward-directed critical perception was observed in men, whereas an inward-directed critical perception was observed in women. ・Differences in opportunities The group of volunteers who participated on their own motivation had a greater perception of being useful and connected than those who participated on othersʼ recommendation. |
